Hot Springs of Southern Idaho: Banbury, Miracle, and Magic Near Magic Valley
You can soak in a natural hot spring, fed directly by geothermal groundwater, within 45 minutes of downtown Twin Falls.
I feel like not enough people know this.
Here's the thing about Southern Idaho: the same geological forces that created the Snake River Canyon — the volcanism, the aquifer system, the fractured basalt — also created a landscape riddled with geothermal energy. And in some places, that energy comes to the surface as hot springs warm enough to soak in year-round.
Banbury Hot Springs (Gooding County)
Banbury Hot Springs sits on the Snake River in the Hagerman Valley of Gooding County — right in the heart of the Thousand Springs complex. The springs feed into pools that range from pleasantly warm to genuinely hot, and the setting is extraordinary: canyon walls, river access, and the constant backdrop of Thousand Springs cascading into the Snake.
Banbury is a private operation with a fee for access. They have RV hookups, camping, and day-use access to the pools. It is one of the best post-kayak recovery spots in Southern Idaho.
Go in the evening. The canyon light in the late afternoon and the warm pool water in cooling air is a combination that is very hard to leave.
Miracle Hot Springs (Gooding County)
Also in the Hagerman Valley, Miracle Hot Springs is another commercial hot spring facility with a different character than Banbury — more family-focused, with multiple pools at different temperatures.
The name comes from the early settlers who believed the geothermal water had healing properties. Whether or not that's true, soaking in 100-degree spring water after a day on the river feels miraculous enough.
The Geothermal Story
The Eastern Snake Plain sits over a volcanic hotspot — the same one that currently powers Yellowstone's geysers. As the North American plate has moved over the hotspot over millions of years, it has left a trail of ancient calderas across southern Idaho.
The heat from that volcanic history warms the groundwater. In some places, that warm water is deep in the aquifer. In others — like the Hagerman Valley — it comes close enough to the surface to be developed as hot springs.
Here's what I find remarkable: you can kayak past Thousand Springs in the morning, soak in a natural hot spring in the afternoon, and drive home to Twin Falls in time for dinner. That is a day in Magic Valley.
Gooding County Real Estate
The Hagerman Valley is one of the most unique real estate markets in Southern Idaho. River access, geothermal resources, agricultural heritage, and a landscape that feels genuinely different from the rest of the region.
If you're drawn to the Thousand Springs area, to Hagerman, to the quiet canyon communities of Gooding County — I know this market well and I'd love to show you what's there.
