The Magic Valley Multi-Day Kayak Trip Itinerary: 6 Counties, 3 Days

What if you could paddle through the heart of Southern Idaho over three days, covering six counties and over 60 miles of river?

You can. Here's how I'd plan it.

This is the itinerary I give people who ask me what makes Magic Valley special. Instead of telling them, I hand them a paddle.

Day 1: Twin Falls County

Put-in: Centennial Waterfront Park, Twin Falls Miles: ~12 Highlights: Perrine Bridge from below, Pillar Falls, spring-fed canyon walls, base jumping overhead Camp: Dispersed camping on sandbars is possible in some sections — check with BLM for current rules

Day 2: Jerome & Lincoln Counties

Miles: ~18 Highlights: The river widens, canyon walls give way to farmland vistas, Jerome County's flat agricultural landscape visible from the water. Lincoln County is Idaho's least-visited county — paddling through it feels like having the state to yourself.

Day 3: Gooding & Cassia Counties

Miles: ~15 (Gooding), shuttle to Cassia optional Highlights: Hagerman Valley and Thousand Springs in Gooding County — the crown jewel. Spring-fed water, waterfalls from canyon walls, extraordinary clarity. Alternate Day 3: Shuttle to Cassia County for the Murtaugh stretch if you want whitewater.

Logistics

  • Shuttle planning is essential — you'll need vehicles at each take-out
  • Water is drinkable in the spring-fed sections but filter it anyway
  • Idaho Fish & Game fishing license required if you plan to fish
  • No camping fees on BLM land, but pack out everything

Why I Wrote This

I cover all six Magic Valley counties as a real estate agent because I believe every part of this region has something remarkable to offer. This trip is how I prove it.
